Keynote: Abandon All Assumptions Except One

In 1991, Carol Gray developed a philosophy that encouraged parents and professionals to “abandon all assumptions” while suggesting that the social impairment in autism is shared, with the potential for mistakes on all sides of the social equation. Twenty-eight years working with people with autism and their families, and over 1,000 presentations and workshops later, Carol will use lecture, demonstration, and one-minute activities to share the career mistakes that she values the most. From encouraging a family to not comply with the demands of their four-year-old son with autism to stand and sing the National Anthem before each dinner, to a well-intentioned but ill-advised method to encourage eye contact, and much more, this presentation is a full of humor, surprises, discoveries, and the life lessons that they hold. Carol will be revising her original recommendation to “abandon all assumptions” by sharing one assumption to keep close at hand. -----CEU Code THKEY01-----
